The length of the file is measured without the tang from the tip to the base of the tang. The cross section is measured across the cut, thus
the measurement may vary.

cut 1 - preferred for rough machining and suitable for roughing.
Cut 2 - suitable for universal roughing and finishing work.
cut 3 - preferably suitable for fine machining and for finishing.
